UPM-KYUTECH BUDDIES PROGRAMME SERIES 1.0 & 2.0 CAN BE UNITING CUTURAL

UPM-kyutech Buddies Programme Series 1.0 and 2.0 a program organized by the Entrepreneurship and Internationalization Cluster, College Representative Council, Kolej Pendeta Za'ba session 2022/2023 had a lot of impact on the residents of Pendeta Za’ba Collage and even the Kyutech participants themselves. The programme has already have in two series proving that the programme is capable of going further with the right goals and objectives. This series 1 and series 2 program takes place as per the following stipulations:

UPM Kyutech Buddies Programme Series 1.0

Date : 3 November 2022 to 14 November 2022

UPM Kyutech Buddies Programme Series 2.0

Date : 26 November 2022 to 2 December 2022

Programme Purpose :

  • Establishing bilateral relationships & improving communication skills with each other regardless of language and race.
  • Students of the program can also learn more efficient ways of communicating internationally.
  • Introducing cross-culturalism between foreign students and students within Malaysia.

In the first series, 12 Kyutech students came from three countries; two students from India, one from China and nine from Japan. However, in the second series, eight Kyutech students and participants were all from Japan. These Kyutech students have been presented with a variety of interesting activities not only within Universiti Putra Malaysia, but also in some interesting places in Malaysia. According to a program director Nur Aziilah Binti Mohd Hanafi stated that,

"The students of Kyutech feel very happy during this programme in UPM. All the buddies or escorts who accompany them also make them more fun as they are exposed to various activities in college. Besides that, they also highly appreciate all the activities and programs provided to those who mostly tell and expose them to the diverse cultures of Malaysia. They (students from Japan, India and China) also learn a lot and something about the similarities and differences in culture, food and so on between their own country and Malaysia. For example, they learned about how to make onde-onde, but in Japan they have mochi which is one of the traditional cakes popular in their country. They also tell that all UPM students are very friendly and good at communicating despite the different languages," she said in an interview. 

These kyutech students are accompanied by buddies who will be their guides and 'friends' throughout the programme and participate in various activities available. In series 1.0, a total of 12 buddies were appointed while in series 2.0 a total of 8 buddies helped to manage the arrival of the Kyutech students. There are an activities that have been done:

  • Visit around Universiti Putra Malaysia, Serdang.
  • Visit to Wetland Park, Putrajaya.
  • Let's do Onde-onde.
  • Relax while weaving.
  • "Traditional Clothing" Session.
  • "The Zapin Dance" session.
  • Let's Cook Chicken Pansuh.
  • A visit to the Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque, and kayaking activities at Putrajaya Lake Club.9.     Visit to the National Museum and Art Market Kuala Lumpur.10
  • "Until We Meet Again" Closing Ceremony Session 

UPM-Kyutech Buddies Programme Series 2.0 Activities

  • A visit to Merdeka Square and around Kuala Lumpur.
  • Bahasa Malaysia Session.       
  • Let's do Onde-onde.
  • "Traditional Clothing" Session.
  • Closing Ceremony Session " Until We Meet Again".

At the closing ceremony of "Until We Meet Again" for Series 1.0, various performances were held. Also present at the ceremony was the Principal of the Pendeta Za’ba College, Leftenan kolonel Bersekutu Prof. Madya Dr. Mohd Azani Alias who was in friendly with the students of Kyutech during the closing ceremony. The closing ceremony of  "Until We Meet Again" for series 2.0 was even more special as it was also attended by the sensei (lecturer) of Kyutech students from Japan, Yoshito Ando and Hanamoto Tsyuyoshi. The closing ceremony of the night was more lively with their presence. Also present were the Principal of the Pendeta Za'ba Collage and the head of the fellow.

Congratulations to all participants who have jointly implemented and made this program more success. Indeed, this programme has really had an impact among the students of the Pendeta Za’ba College and has succeeded in integrating the culture in the country and abroad. Congratulations!
